Overview

Connecticut Department of Public Health requires that licensed physicians/surgeons participate in continuing medical education (CME) activities pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes, and for registration periods beginning on and after October 1, 2010, CME coursework in cultural competency is required. This tutorial module helps you fulfill this requirement. Successful completion of this module will allow you to earn necessary CME credit in cultural competency.

Prior to beginning this module, we encourage you to access the Cultural Formulation Interview (CFI) Additional Resource document, which is found in the Support section.
Here is an excerpt from the Resource Document:

According to Jarvis GE, et.al. (2020), “The Cultural Formulation Interview (CFI) is an interview protocol designed to be used by clinicians in any setting to gather essential data to produce a cultural formulation. The CFI aims to improve culturally sensitive diagnosis and treatment by focusing clinical attention on the patient’s perspective and social context.”  

As you watch the videos provided in this module, reflect on how you might use the 16 CFI questions presented in the CFI Additional Resource Document.
