Overview

Vascular diseases affect more than a third of the adult population. Advances in minimally invasive endovascular therapy have exponentially increased the number of patients undergoing procedures for treatment of vascular disease. Vascular emergencies continue to be a major source of morbidity and mortality.

This Zoom course will describe the current management of vascular emergencies. An overview of recent technological and medical advances in the field will be presented.


Objectives
  1. Identify the vascular emergencies and their early recognition
  2. Discuss the role of vascular surgery and GI surgery for the treatment of acute mesenteric ischemia
  3. Review the current guidelines and management of ruptured AAA
  4. Describe the presentation and management of occlusion of the abdominal aorta
  5. Describe the different aortic pathologies leading to emergencies and their respective management
  6. Summarize the evidence for and against catheter directed thrombectomy for DVT and PE
  7. Provide an overview of DOACs and their reversal agents during emergencies
  8. Compare traditional standard of care in treatment of aortic pathology and introduce new techniques and devices currently used
  9. Highlight novel endovascular devices to treat the aortic arch
  10. Review the outcomes of endovascular therapy for aortic dissection
  11. Discuss the role of the vascular surgeon in the management of iatrogenic injuries
  12. Examine the management of bleeding dialysis access
  13. Discuss the significance of bleeding varicose veins and the current therapy
  14. Review urgent surgical treatment for symptomatic carotid artery
  15. Update on the management of acute limb ischemia and debate current controversies
