Date & Location
Wednesday, September 11, 2019, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM,  Yale West Campus Conference Center

Target Audience
Specialties - Cardiovascular Disease, Critical Care Medicine, Diagnostic Radiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, General Practice, General Surgery, Hospitalist, Internal Medicine, Pharmacist, Physician Assistant

Overview

Despite therapeutic advances, the prognosis of pulmonary hypertension remains poor which likely reflects in part delayed detection of the disease and scarcity of disease modifying therapies currently available. The former is important especially amongst health care providers given the myriad of conditions that can result in pulmonary hypertension, including chronic liver disease, left heart disease, and connective tissue disease. Early recognition of the pulmonary hypertension and recognizing the indication & limitations of current pulmonary artery hypertension-specific therapies are important to allow for prompt and appropriate treatment strategies. Knowledge on the peri-operative, acute, and chronic management strategies of patients with pulmonary hypertension are important for health care providers to understand the complexity of managing patients with pulmonary hypertension.

Objectives
  1. Distinguish between the different management strategies for patients with acute pulmonary heart disease
  2. Recognize the limitations of pulmonary arterial hypertension specific therapies in managing patients with left heart disease
  3. Describe the different pathway specific therapies currently available to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension
  4. Discuss the different advanced management strategies for patients with pulmonary embolism
