Overview

PLEASE NOTE: ONLINE REGISTRATION IS CLOSED

Recent advances in the field of structural and valvular heart disease have opened the door to novel treatment options for patients.  A number of recent clinical studies have now shown that patients who were previously treated through surgical approaches or through medical therapy alone, benefit from being treated through novel transcatheter therapies.  In particular, the management of aortic stenosis with TAVR, mitral regurgitation with MitraClip, PFO closure in patients with stroke, and left atrial appendage closure in patients with Afib, have dramatically altered the cardiovascular landscape.  Understanding which patients are candidates for transcatheter therapies and how these therapies maybe benefit a specific patient, can be complex given the rapid advances in transcatheter technologies.

This course, targeting internal medicine physicians, cardiologists and primary care providers, intends to provide attendees with an overview of the most up-to-date information on the results of recent pivotal studies, focusing on best treatment options and the mechanisms for the evaluation and treatment of these patients within the Yale Health System.

Objectives
  1. To discuss the latest and evolving indication for valvular interventions
  2. To discuss outcomes and associated complications including stroke after valve interventions
  3. To discuss which patienst shoudl be referred for advanced interventional therapy and when
  4. To discuss the evidence in post procedural pharmacology management
  5. To review the latest evidence in transaortic valve replacement
  6. To review the latest evidence in percutaneous mitral valve clip and patient selection
  7. To discuss current status of tricuspid valve evaluation
  8. To review the evidence and management of patients wiht atrial fibrillation and indications for left atrial appendage occlusion
  9. To reveiw the indications and evidence for Patent Foramen Ovale Closure
