Yale Center for Asthma and Airway Disease 2025: Moving Towards a Unified Approach for the Management of Asthma and COPD

Asthma and COPD and Bronchiectasis affect million individuals worldwide and are some of the most common chronic diseases in the world. Advances in our understanding of disease pathogenesis has led to advances in the clinical evaluation of these patients and novel therapeutic options that now include biologic therapies initially developed for asthma. These advances highlight that we are moving towards a move unified approach to managing theses diseases. This symposium will review the recent advances in our understanding of the pathobiology of airway disease, recent therapeutic developments, and novel therapies in development.

1. Summarize recent changes to the COPD guidelines, including the role of blood eosinophil monitoring in guiding treatment decisions.
2. Discuss updates to the GINA asthma management guidelines, with a focus on anti-inflammatory reliever therapy across all asthma severities.
3. Evaluate emerging clinical trial data supporting newly approved therapies for asthma, COPD, and bronchiectasis.
