Overview

Please note the date change to May 2019.

Provisions of the Connecticut General Statutes require that physicians applying for license renewal in the state of Connecticut must participate in at least 1 hour of accredited CME in infectious diseases (including but not limited to HIV/AIDS); risk management (including controlled substances and pain management); sexual assault; domestic violence; cultural competence; and behavioral health, including newly required as of January 1, 2016, the topic of mental health conditions common to veterans and family members of veterans.

As a CME provider for physicians in the state of Connecticut it is important for Yale CME to provide opportunities that meet the state-required topics. Therefore, along with the Connecticut-Local Partner of the New England AIDS Education and Training Center, Yale CME has developed this full-day course that will not only meet the state mandated course requirements to be relicensed, but will also provide valuable information for physicians and other health care providers in the state.

It is highly recommended that physician assistants (PAs) and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) participate in this educational activity to review the latest updates in the aforementioned topics as these topics are required for re-licensure. (For full details on your re-licensure requirements, please contact the CT DPH).

Target Audience: Physicians, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Dentists, PAs, APRNs, RNs, Hospitalists, Fellows, Residents and Students.

Objectives
  1. Implement the newly revised CDC HIV screening recommendations into their practice
  2. Describe the US Public Health Service released of the first comprehensive clinical practice guidelines for PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV negative individuals)
  3. Identify behaviors that place patients at risk for acquiring HIV and HCV
  4. List the necessary clinical tests required after a patient receives a positive HIV test
  5. Interpret HIV/AIDS and HCV lab results
  6. Describe the natural history of HIV/Hep C co-infection
  7. Recognize the intersection of domestic violence/sexual assault and HIV/AIDS
  8. Assess the role of domestic violence and sexual assault in the clinical management of HIV/AIDS patients
  9. Demonstrate an appreciation of the cultural issues related to providing medical care to transgenderd population
  10. Identify most common psychiatric disorders in the medical setting
