Friday, November 10, 2023, 8:00 AM - 4:05 PM, The Anlyan Center, New Haven, CT

Target Audience
Specialties - Pulmonology

Overview

Asthma and COPD are two of the most common chronic diseases and, combined, afflict over a billion people worldwide. Changes in our understanding of disease pathogenesis and biomarkers has advanced the evaluation and management of patients in clinical practice and more precise selection of therapeutics. Approved and emerging treatments include first-in-class inhaled, oral, and targeted biologics for asthma and COPD. In addition, evolving clinical guidelines have shifted away from a controller/rescue approach to single maintenance and reliever (SMART) strategies. This symposium will review recent advances in the pathobiology of obstructive lung disease and how these discoveries have impacted clinical management and guidelines of asthma (and COPD).

Target Audience: ENT, Pediatric and Adult ENT, Allergy, Pulmonary and Primary Care and Internal Medicine

Objectives
  1. Review the similarities and differences in the pathobiology of Asthma and COPD and how these are reflected in the clinical presentation of patients in the clinic
  2. Discuss the mechanism of action and clinical trial data of novel therapies emerging for the treatment of asthma and COPD
  3. Explain the changes in the workup and management of patients with asthma and COPD with a focus on anti-inflammatory and reliever therapy for asthma and workup and selection of ICS and T2 biologics for patients with COPD
