Overview

The clinical syndromes encompassed under chronic pulmonary infections are highly heterogeneous, often difficult to diagnose and to treat. They exist at the interface of the disciplines of infectious diseases, pulmonary medicine, pathology and radiology and require coordinated and longitudinal expert care from multiple specialties. However, many trainees and clinicians often have little experience with these entities and are uncomfortable managing them.

This interactive symposium aims to bring attendees up-to-date with current best practices and recent developments in the diagnosis, management and treatment of various syndromes of chronic pneumonias. The program will focus on delivering high-yield clinical information directly applicable to patient care and gleaned from a variety of disciplines including infectious diseases, pulmonary medicine, respiratory medicine, microbiology, anatomic pathology, radiology and pharmacy. A variety of educational formats will be employed including didactic sessions, panel discussions and case-based presentation to deliver an accessible and engaging educational experience.

Objectives
  1. Identify the basic histopathologic features of causes of Chronic Pulmonary Infections
  2. Apply new radiologic approaches to Chronic Pulmonary Infections
  3. Address the current approach to diagnosis and management of non-tuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary infections
  4. Discuss new approaches to pulmonary tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment
  5. Gain expert insight into chronic pulmonary infections from endemic fungi
  6. Highlight key concepts and best practices in bronchiectasis
  7. Review current state of the art approaches to chronic infectious pneumonias
  8. Examine the clinical approach to chronic pneumonias in the immunocompromised host
  9. Discuss utility of inhaled antibiotics and other strategies for recurrent/persistent pneumonias
  10. Identify key concepts in lung histopathology and chest radiography for chronic pneumonias
